Turtle Day Crafts Kids can make to celebrate

Turtle Crafts

We love fun holidays around here. The holidays are a great opportunity to teach our little artists about other cultures and animals. Today, May 23rd is World Turtle Day. What better way to celebrate and learn but with Turtle Day Crafts.

World turtle day was started in 2000 to bring awareness to the reptiles and their habitats. There are several ways to celebrate this unique holiday. Maybe cleaning a beach or pond? Learning how to and holding a turtle. Or you guessed it… making crafts about turtles.

Today we are sharing a couple of different types of turtle crafts. Our first project is one of my originals. I have been making this sea turtle craft with little artists for over twenty years. Not only is it cute but it is a great way to sneak in a little shape learning as well.

As you can see we are using a heart shape to glue our turtle parts onto. If you have a really little one you might want to prep and cut out all the pieces ahead of time. Older children might want to cut out his or her own pieces. We even have a printable heart pattern available HERE.

We have another shape based turtle next. We are using a half circle or semi-circle to make this project. If you do not have a paper plate use a piece of card stock cut into a half circle. Please refrain from using paper as it tends to become too wet with the paint.

Our final turtle art project is inspired by the native tribal art in the Northwest part of the United States. This tribal turtle uses rubber stamps to decorate the turtle’s shells. Each turtle is its own unique piece of art.

We hope you will have fun on this World Turtle Day. If you made one turtle craft or all of them I know you will be saying, ‘You’re so creative!’
