Projects that begin with K

We have been working our way thought the alphabet. Today we are working on crafts that begin with the letter K. We decided to learn about the continent of Australia with our K category. There are many adorable animals in this ‘down under’ country. Today we are making a kangaroo, a kookaburra, and a koala.

Not only will your little artist learn about the letter K, but also about animals and a continent. Let’s gather up those craft supplies and head out on our art adventure.

In our first craft project we are going to make a reverse painting of a kangaroo. You may use one color of paint or use three sunset colors. You know what your artist likes best.

KANGAROO PAINTING

  1. Copy of kangaroo
  2. Scissors
  3. Small paper plate
  4. Paper
  5. Paint
  6. Sponge

Directions:

  1. Print and cut out kangaroo.
  2. Place kangaroo on a plain piece of paper.
  3. Pour a small amount of paint onto paper plate.
  4. Sponge paint around.
  5. Lift the kangaroo off to reveal reverse painting.

Let’s look to the trees for our favorite eucalyptus eating friend, the koala. Please do not call them koala bears. They are marsupials just like our friends, the kangaroos. They are raised in a pouch exactly like the Joeys (baby kangaroos).

Huggable Koala Craft Project

We have to look up to see our last project. Look! It’s a kookaburra bird. There is a great kid’s song about the kookaburra:

“Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree
Eating all the gum drops he can see
Fly, Kookaburra! Fly, Kookaburra!
Leave some there for me”

Maybe you can listen to this song while making your very own kookaburra?
