June is the United States National Aquarium Month. Its purpose is to bring awareness to the treasure of knowledge that can be found at your local aquarium. We love going to any aquarium! It is a great hands-on way for your little artist to learn about all of the animals that live in our oceans.

If you can’t make to it to an aquarium, why not build your own? Your little artists can make and design their own ocean creatures. In this post we feature three projects from our Ocean category.

We love making these sea anemones. Your little artist can glue fun yarn to make this project. You can teach him or her that it’s how anemones catch their dinners!

Sea Anemone Craft Project

Supplies:

1. Copy of sea anemones
2. Crayons or Tropical markers
3. Glue
4. Safety scissors
5. Eyelash yarn

Directions:

1. Print copy of anemones.
2. Color.
3. Cut yarn and glue onto anemones.

In some aquariums you can actually pet and learn about stingrays. It is fun to watch them swim through the water so gracefully. We enjoyed them so much we designed this craft project.

Stingray Craft Project

Supplies:

 

1. Copy of stingray
2. Scissors
3. Blue bingo dauber
4. Paper

Directions:

1. Print out stingray and cut out.
2. Place cutout of stingray onto plain paper.
3. Use the bingo dauber to paint around the cutout.
4. Lift the cutout to reveal the reverse painted stingray.

Most aquariums have a touch pool. They usually have plenty of starfish. Your little artist can make this sparkling starfish.

 

Starfish Craft Project

Supplies:

1. Copy of starfish
2. Glitter glue
3. Cotton swabs

Directions:

1. Print copy of starfish.
2. Place a small amount glitter glue at a time and use a cotton swab to ‘paint’ onto starfish.
3. Let dry and hang.
