Free Mexican Heritage Month Crafts for Children

Mexican Themed Crafts

This month we celebrate Mexican Heritage in the United States. We thought it would be a perfect time to share some of our Mexican themed crafts. While you might be planning your own fiesta we thought we would share crafts about a few of the different cultures that make up the beautiful country of Mexico. In today’s newsletter, we are sharing some crafts to teach your little artist about the Mayan and Aztec cultures. Let’s begin our tour of the Mexican culture with these fun projects.

In our first craft, we are learning about the giant Aztec temples. You may use paintbrushes or sponges to help your little artists paint their own temple. Sponges do help to make a stone texture. Click the image below to make your own.

Little artists love to make and wear their own art. In this next project, we are making our own Mayan inspired headdress. There are a couple of different options for making this project. You may print the medallion onto gold paper and let the little ones glue on feathers. Or make this craft as described in the directions. Click the image below to find out more.

Jaguar Craft Project

The jaguar in Mayan mythology was seen as the ruler of the Underworld, and as such, a symbol of the night sun and darkness. Click the image below to make this jaguar mask.

The last project might be a little more familiar to your little artist. If you have had the chance to watch the Disney movie, ‘Coco.’ This adorable movie is about the Day of the Dead. Instead of painting our faces to look like sugar skulls, we are making our own masks. Click the image below to make your own.
