February 5th will be National Weatherperson’s Day! This unique holiday got us thinking about the different kinds of weather. It also made us think about how much we rely on our weatherperson to help us travel in the snowy months and plan barbecues in the sunny months.
Today we are going to make art projects inspired be three very different types of weather. We are going to make a project featuring one of our many Snow projects, followed by Rain and Sun craft projects.
In our first weather-inspired project, we are going to make our own snow globe. When you shake it, you have your own snow storm in a bottle!
Snow Globe-
Supplies:
- Baby food jar
- White or silver glitter
- Distilled vinegar
Directions:
- Have children pour vinegar into baby food jar.
- Choose and sprinkle glitter in jar.
- Place lid on jar and close tight.
- Flip the jar upside down .
- Watch the snow fall.

After the snow in Winter comes the Spring rain. Our next craft project features Thunder and Lightning.
Thunder and Lightning Craft Project
Supplies:
- Copy of lightning
- Glitter glue
- Cotton balls
Directions:
- Print out lightning.
- Glitter glue the lightning.
- Use the glitter glue to attach cotton balls to make a cloud.
After the rainstorm comes the sun. Your little artist will have fun making this cool Sun Painting.
Sun Painting-
Sun
Supplies:
- Copy of sun
- Sponges
- Yellow or orange paint
- Paper plate
Directions:
- Print copy of sun.
- Pour small amount of paint onto paper plate.
- Use sponges to paint the sun.
