Zoo Crafts
In the United States, July 1st is National Zoo Day. This date marks the opening of the first official zoo in Philadelphia Pennsylvania in 1874. To help celebrate we are sharing some of our easy zoo crafts for your little artist. Maybe these projects will help bring the zoo a little closer to home.
Little artists love to make paper chains and we use this skill to make our flamingos. Your ‘littles’ can make short legs or long legs. This is a great project for teaching measurements. Who has the longest legs? Who has the shortest? Click the link below to make your own.

We thought it was only appropriate on National Zoo Day in the United States that we share a native animal or two. In our next two projects, we are making crafts about animals you might find in North America. The first is a large North American Buffalo and the second is the much smaller Gila Monster. Up next we are making our very own gorillas in the mist paintings. We simply cut out a gorilla pattern and sponge paint around it. Then lift the cut out to reveal the painting underneath. If I am using this project in a classroom setting I like to make my cutouts out of plastic folders. They are reusable and washable. Easy to store for many years to come. Little artists love to play pretend and our next project makes that a little easier. We are pretending to be elephants. We let artists glue the elephant parts together to make their own wearable art. When the craft is complete it is fun to put on the Elephant March song from Disney’s Jungle Book. Then let your new heard of elephants dance around the room. We hope your little animals had fun making these Zoo crafts. I know you are sure to tell them, ‘ You’re so creative!’
