National Zoo Day Crafts
We absolutely love the zoo around here and April 8th just happens to be National Zoo Day. Like most of us, right now it is hard to visit zoos in person. Even though there are plenty of virtual trips to the zoo, we thought we would bring the zoo to you with art. Today we are making our own zoo by becoming animals you might find at your zoo with these fun projects.
One reason I love the zoo so much is that it provides so many learning opportunities. By taking the time to learn all the names of the animals and counting how many we see, your little artist will be learning without even realizing it. For older children, we can even learn about counties and the native animals.
In our first two craft projects, we are transforming your little artists into elephants. Literally, from head to toe. Let us start by making an elephant mask.

We have now hopefully made a craft to go on the head now let’s cover the toes. Your little ones will have fun stomping around like an elephant with these elephant feet. I love to put on the ‘Elephant March’ song from Jungle book and have fun stomping around with the little artists.

The next project has us pretending to take flight and become toucans.

Most little artists love snakes. This next project teaches scissor skills while making his or her own snake. When completed the snake can wrap around the neck and arm of the designer. Just like a real snake.

One of our favorite animals to see at the zoo is the tiger. In this next project, we are making a tiger headband. The little artist can make a white tiger or color it to make a traditional tiger.

We hope you had fun bringing the zoo to your home or classroom on National Zoo Day. We know your little artists will have fun pretending to be these animals. You are sure to tell them, ‘You’re so creative!’
