January 16th is Dragon Appreciation Day. Dragons are probably one of my favorite crafts to make with the little artist. They dream up fun ways to decorate and make them. I especially love asking kids to tell me a story about their dragon. Where do they live? What do they eat? You will have fun hearing how creative your little artist can be.
We have all different kinds of dragons on our site but, today we are sharing a couple of our Fairy tale style dragons.
In this first project, we are making the golden dragon. There are so many Asian folklore/ Fairy tale stories involving the golden dragon. Maybe visit a local library and see if you can find one of these great stories. We love reading stories and making a matching project.

In our second craft project, we are using paper plates to design this sleepy dragon. We say ‘sleepy’ because one of my little artist said it is laying down. I would have to agree.
If you don’t want to paint this project you can use a 1″ hole punch to make scales and glue on. The little artist love using hole punches. (Adult supervision required.)

In our final dragon project this week, we are making a fire breathing dragon. Well more like smoke. But you know the saying where there is smoke there is fire. Little artists can work on small motor skills while pulling cotton to glue on.

Now that you have made a few dragons maybe you learn how to train them? ‘How to train your dragon’ movie is one of our favorites around here. If you would like to add it to your collection click HERE.
We hope you had fun getting ready for Dragon Appreciation Day with these crafts. Whatever dragon you make we know you will tell your little artist, ‘You’re so creative!’
