We love learning about different cultures through art projects. Today we are learning with Christmas Around the World Crafts. It is amazing to learn about the decoration we traditionally think about actually come from different parts of the world. It is also important for little artists to learn some cultures do not even celebrate Christmas. In today’s newsletter, we are sharing some of our December crafts. In the first project, we are making and decorating our own gingerbread men. This northern European Christmas character is sure to be recognizable to your little artists.

We are heading north to the Scandinavian counties to make this adorable three-dimensional gnome. This is a great project to use up your bits and pieces of art supplies. Cut it out and decorate in any way your little artist would like. We drew a plaid pattern when we made ours but let your creativity free with this project.

This next project dates back to Roman times. The wealthy would hang a wreath on their front doors. You may do the prep work and cut out the holly leaves or use fake leaves to make this wreath craft.

We mentioned earlier that not everyone celebrates Christmas. In this craft, we learn about how some people celebrate the holiday of Kwanza in the days following Christmas.

From the 17th century, Franciscan friars in Mexico included poinsettias in their Christmas celebrations. The star-shaped leaf pattern is said to symbolize the Star of Bethlehem. Probably the most recognizable craft for the Christmas season is the Christmas tree. In our last project, we are helping little artists to make and decorate their own trees. We are using and learning what a half or semi-circle is and how to use it to make a Christmas tree.
