Happy Chinese New Year 2021! China and other Asian countries celebrate the new year with the first new moon of the lunar calendar. This year the new moon falls on the 12th of February.
In Chinese/Asian cultures, the zodiac calendar is believed to influence people’s personalities, career, compatibility, marriage, and fortune. This year is the year of the Ox. People born in the year of the Ox are known for diligence, dependability, strength, and determination. We hope the year of the Ox will be a fun and lucky year for you!
In our first craft, we are all pretending to be an ox. We are making this ox headband. For this free pattern and project, please click below.

New years is celebrated with lots of beautiful fireworks. Fireworks date back to almost 800 A.D. But your little artist can stay safe while using glitter to make his or her own beautiful fireworks.

During the Chinese New Year parades, you will see amazingly choreographed dragon dances. We highly recommend looking up a couple of videos to show your little artists.
In this next project, your little artist can make the head of the dragon and dance. Or if you are lucky enough to be in a classroom setting, try taking turns leading the dragon dance. This is great because it can still be done at a distance. Think of it as a kind of follow the leader. The little ones are sure to have fun.

Staying with our dragon theme, we are refining small motor skills with our next project: once while making the paper chain, and again while playing with our marionette style puppet. The classroom looks amazing with all of these dragons hanging around. For this free pattern and project, please click below.
