Fire Prevention Week Crafts for Children

Fire Prevention Week Crafts

This year fire prevention week runs October 3-9thand we are sharing fire prevention week crafts.

National Fire Prevention Week is observed in the United States and Canada, during the week (from Sunday to Saturday) in which October 9 falls. In the United States, the first Presidential proclamation of Fire Prevention Week was made in 1925. Most people do not know that fire prevention week commemorates the great fire in Chicago that took place in 1871.

This is a great time o work with and remind our little artists to not play with matches and lights. Also if they see one to immediately bring it to and tell an adult. We also practice fire drills and talk about escape plans. It is always better to be prepared when talking about fires.

The first thing you might hear during our fire drill is a smoke detector. In our first craft, we are decorating our own detectors. I always ask the children to name the smoke detector when they are done. It is sure to bring a smile to your face. Click the image for the printable project.

After your little artist hears the smoke detector go off they might hear a fire truck. In this next craft, your little artist can reverse paint a fire truck. If you have multiple students making this craft you may cut out five or six fire trucks from poster board and reuse them many times. Click the link for s printable pattern.

When the fire truck arrives your little artist will see the fire men and women. In this next craft, we pretend to work for the fire department by making our own hats. Your little artist will have fun wearing a craft they made. Click the image to find out more.
