With the autumn smell in the air, it can only mean it’s time for Fall craft projects. This year we have some fun projects that are sure to teach your little artists about our fourth season. Ask them what they think when they hear the word ‘fall’. You might be surprised at what they already know. When we thought about it, the first three things that came to mind were beautiful leaves, pumpkins, and sunflowers. So that’s what we decided to make.
In our first project, we are making paint drop leaves. I love making these because no two leaves look alike, just like the real thing. If you’re making these for a classroom, cut out and hang them; it’s sure to be beautiful. Let’s get started!
Leaf painting
Supplies:
- Copy of leaf
- Card stock
- Eyedropper
- Two different paint colors
- Optional: Scissors
Directions:
- Print copy of oak leaf onto card stock paper.
- Fold paper in half the long way and unfold.
- Use eye dropper to place drops of paint on leaf.
- Fold and press paint.
- Unfold.
- Let dry.
- Optional: cut out.
This time of year we always find ourselves off to the pumpkin patch. Some pumpkin farms offer hay rides while others just hiking, all in search of the perfect pumpkin. Next we are going to use bingo daubers to make our own pumpkins.
Pumpkins
Supplies:
- Copy of pumpkin
- Orange bingo dauber
Directions:
- Print copy of pumpkin.
- Use bingo dauber to paint pumpkin.
While most flowers are preparing to hibernate, the beautiful sunflower is just getting started. Your little artist will find it fascinating that this flower got its name because it always looks to the sun. You can even play a game of ‘follow the leader’ with your completed flower and a flashlight by shining the flashlight and having the sunflower face the light.
Sunflower
Supplies:
- Flower pattern
- Construction paper
- Glue stick
- Scissors
- Paper towel tube
- Optional: Hole punch
Directions:
- Cut 8 of each size petals out of yellow paper.
- Cut circle out of brown paper.
- Use glue stick to glue small petals to brown circle first.
- Then glue on longer petals.
- Turn over so the brown center faces up.
- Glue the back of flower to paper towel tube.
- Glue dots to center of flower.
