Crafts that begin with K continued…

We continue this week with crafts that begin with K. For the past year we have slowly been crafting our way though the alphabet. Last time we made crafts that start with K in Australia. We made kangaroos, koalas, and kookaburras. Maybe we learned a new song, “Kookaburra in the Gum Tree”, that had us learning K says “Kuh.”

As we keep on ‘k’rafting, or should I say, crafting our way thought the alphabet, we continue with an entire day about kites. With spring hopefully here for most of us, we can go fly a kite! Today we are making some beautiful kites of our own.

Our first kite craft project will help your little artists refine their small motor skills by ripping up tissue paper. You can use one color of tissue paper or many. It’s a great way to teach what happens when you lay the different colors on top of each other.

Kite craft project

Supplies:

  1. Copy of kite
  2. Green tissue paper
  3. Glue stick

Directions:

  1. Have the children rip up the tissue paper into small pieces.
  2. Place glue onto kite.
  3. Add the pieces of tissue paper onto the glue.

In our next kite we are going to use a kite shape to make a painting, using a reverse painting technique. When you have completed the painting, you can choose to glue on a string.

This next project has a double K, and pays tribute to the birth place of kites, China. It’s a koi kite. You can teach your little artists that this fish is a koi, which also starts with K. They will have fun coloring and cutting out while making this project.
