Cinco de Mayo
Happy Cinco de Mayo; well, almost. While we are waiting this week to celebrate this Mexican holiday, we are busy making our fun decorations. In the Cinco de Mayo category you will be able to make party decorations and wearable art, as well as your own musical instruments. In this article we feature three out of many. To see all the projects available, click here.
Maracas
Have fun turning all those plastic eggs into maracas. After Easter, you will find these plastic eggs in every store clearance section. Or, if your house is like ours, it feels like these things are everywhere!
Gather them all together. Find and pick out a favorite Washi tape or two. Place one or two spoonfuls of rice or dried beans inside the plastic egg and close. Then cut different lengths of tape to decorate the eggs. The benefit of this project is that every piece of tape assures the the egg will stay closed, as well as add beauty.

Sombrero
The wearable sombrero. That’s right. Your little artists can practice their cutting skills while making this project. Have them start by coloring, then cutting out and gluing to a headband. They can proudly wear their sombreros to a Cinco de Mayo party!

Cactus
Your little artist can help this cactus to blossom. If your child has the patience, he or she can start by coloring the cactus, and then ripping up tissue paper into small pieces and crumpling. Glue the crumpled tissue paper onto the cactus to give it blossoms.
Use this cactus as a decoration for your Cinco de Mayo celebration. Find the complete directions and pattern by clicking here.
We have many more Cinco de Mayo arts and craft projects available here. Your party decorations will have everyone saying, “Eres tan creativo!” (You’re so creative!)
