Happy Chinese New Year, everyone! In 2019 we welcome in the Year of the Pig. It is believed in the 12 year cycle that your personality is determined by the year/animal you are born in.
The pig’s personality is said to be diligent, compassionate, and generous. Pigs are very considerate: once they set a goal, they will devote all their energy to achieving it. Though pigs rarely seek help from others, they will not refuse to give others a hand. Pigs never suspect trickery, so they are easily fooled.
We have a special Pig Head Band project HERE. We decided to share some of our other fun projects in this article.
This first project uses science to create this beautiful koi pond. Start by coloring with crayons. (Only use crayons; no markers.) Then use water colors to paint over the top. Your little artist will be amazed how the paint won’t stick to the crayons.
Koi Pond
Supplies:
- Copy of fish pond
- Crayons (Not markers)
- Blue watercolor paint
- Paint brush
- Paper towel
Directions:
- Color fish and lily pads with crayons.
- Then brush over the drawing with blue water color paint.
- Watch the paint wipe off the crayon.
- Blot excess watercolor with paper towel.
Rice is a large part of the diet in China, so we decided to use uncooked rice to make this project. Have your little artists color their bowls. Then, have them glue as much or as little rice to their bowls as they would like.
