African Crafts for little artists ages three and up

It seems there is a fun and wacky holiday for everything these days. Well, February 18th is no different, it is ‘Travel to Africa Day.’ Well, we might not all be able to afford to pack up and fly to Africa we can make African crafts.

Little artists will have fun making a painting of the second largest continent in the world with this craft project. This project is great for helping to learn the shape of Africa. Click the image below to print this free project.

I can’t think about Africa without thinking about elephants. It is easy to teach little artists the difference between Asian and African elephants, it is the size of their ears. African elephants have large ears while Asian elephants have smaller ears. In this project, we are making very large ears. When this project is complete it is almost two feet wide. This next project is not only our most popular craft in our Africa category but is the most popular craft on our entire website, it’s a gorilla. While real gorillas can grow up to five and a half feet tall we are making a much smaller version in today’s project. We are using a reverse painting technique to make our own ‘gorillas in the mist’ project. Click the image below to make your own.

The next craft is fast in more than one way. We are making the fastest land animal while refining small motor skills. We are giving this cheetah his spots with art. To make this cheetah craft click the image below.

While traveling through Africa you might try going on a Safari? This next project is an animal you might find while out on that safari, the giraffe. This craft is great for including in the study unit of measurement. Each giraffe is made to the height of each individual artist. The children can measure his or her own height and with help, they can make the giraffe the same height. The children can then line up the giraffes from shortest to tallest.
