Crafts about Colors

The first craft we are sharing can be used in multiple ways. You could have the children color the matching word with crayons or markers. Another idea you could print the crayons onto colored paper and let the children practice their scissors skills. You could even glue matching bits of colored paper onto the large format crayon. Or, just simply print to make classroom decorations.

Crayon Color Crafts

In this next craft, we start by making our own playdough. We then divide it into three equal amounts and add a primary color to each. The three primary colors are red, yellow, and blue. The secondary colors are what happens when we mix and of the primary colors together. For example red and yellow make orange. I usually give the children a couple of examples. Then let the children explore what happens when they mix one or all.

We have five play dough recipes on our website. Some playdough recipes require cooking and some do not. We even have a recipe for edible play dough recipe so even the littlest artists can play too. To see all of our recipes click HERE.

Next, we are designing different pretend colored planets. Children may have fun using a little color theory to mix colors. We start by folding this pattern in half and unfold. Have your little artist pick two primary paint colors. Drop a few drops of paint onto the planet. Fold back close and smoosh the paint together. Unfold to study how the colors mixed together.

Crafts about Colors Water Mix

Children love water play. We have fun in this next project mixing different colored waters. Gather up some clear plastic cups, eye droppers, food coloring, and water. Start by giving each child six to eight cups of water. Add the primary food colors of red, yellow, and blue to three of the cups. Then let the children use eye droppers to mix colors together to see what they can make.

We hope you had fun mixing it up this week with crafts about color. I am sure you will be telling your little artists, ‘You’re so creative!’
