Free Antarctic Day Crafts for Preschool Children

Antarctic Day Crafts

Antarctica Day is an international holiday recognizing the anniversary of the signing of the Antarctic Treaty in 1959. It is celebrated on December 1st each year. Along with Midwinter Day (Solstice), it is one of Antarctica’s two principal holidays. With Dember 1st right around the corner, we thought we would share some Antarctic Day Crafts to celebrate.

Today we are sharing some of our crafts about animals you might see while visiting the Antarctic. In our first project, we are making one of the most recognizable animals, the penguin. We are using heart shapes to make this adorable craft. This is a great way to add some shape recognition into a project. Click the image below for instructions and free printables.

Next, we are refining small motor skills with this adorable seal craft. Your little artist may use his or her fingerprints to add spots to this mammal. It is always a great idea to have extra diaper wipes on hand for easy clean up. Click the image below for instructions and free printables.

In today’s final, craft project we are making our own sparkling icebergs. We are using iridescent glitter to decorate. If the thought of glitter scares you try using iridescent glitter glue. The glue contains the glitter and prevents it from decorating your entire workspace. Click the image below for instructions and free printables.

We decide to share this fun mini iceberg mold. This is fun to make and float in a blow of water for sensory/science play. It is fun to have the children study what happens to the ice as it sits. You can also add salt to ask the artists what they think will happen?
