How to make Dinosaur Crafts with Young Children

Dinosaur Crafts

If you have worked with children for more than a minute you know they love dinosaurs. The number one request we receive on our site is dinosaur crafts. I love hearing even the littlest artist pronounce these giant scientific dinosaur names. Some surprisingly well.

In today’s newsletter, we are sharing just a few of our favorite dinosaur crafts. Let’s start by making our favorite flying dinosaur, the Pterodactyl. You can skip the glitter and use crayons or markers to add color. The little ones having fun flying these and seeing which one flew further.

In the next two crafts, we are turning our little artist into a Triceratops from head to toe. The little artists will have fun making, wearing, and pretending to be this medium-sized dinosaur.

We are starting by making our Triceratops mask. This is fun for sneaking in a little math by counting the number of horns. Plus discussing how tri means three. For the littlest artists, we help them by cutting out the pieces ahead of time and letting them paint and assemble. For an older artist, with scissor skills, we let them have fun starting from scratch. Click the image below to make this craft.

In today’s final project we are making the Triceratop’s feet to go with our masks. The little artists will have fun painting and gluing this project together. Then watch as they wear and stomp around just like a real Triceratops. We like to put on the ‘Walk the Dinosaur’ from Ice age 3 and stomp around to the music. Click here for the song on Youtube.
