The United States has moved its National Wildlife Conservation Day to February 22nd. This was in order to honor conservationist Steve Irwin on his birthday. He is responsible for creating a few global conservation foundations. Including the Wildlife Warriors Worldwide and International Crocodile Rescue to name a couple.
Steve Irwin’s love of animals was fascinating. He worked hard to break down the stereotypes of ‘scary animals’. Creating a way to inspire children to love and protect all creatures great and small. Even though Steve is no longer with us his inspiration lives on in those that loved him around the globe.
Today he inspires us with some of his favorite animals. When he was just six years old he was given his first pet, a python. So, today we are going to make our own paper pythons. This project is great when it is done because your little artist can wrap the snake around their arm just like a real one.

We remember watching and loving Steve Irwin’s ‘The Crocodile Hunter’ television show. Yes, we all thought he was crazy jumping off the boat to pet one. Then he would smile and tell you, ‘she’s a beauty.’ So, it would only make sense to make a couple of our Crocodile /Alligator craft projects.

Lastly, we are making one more reptile to celebrate National Wildlife Conservation Day. This little lizard is fun to make while sneaking in a few small motor skills.

We hope you had fun remembering Steve Irwin on National Wildlife Conservation Day. You never know who your little artist will grow up to be but I know you will tell them, ‘You’re so creative!’
