Fun ways to celebrate Ice Cream Month Crafts
It has been said that ice cream, or types of ice cream, have been around for thousands of years. Types of this frozen dessert date back to 200 A.D. in parts of Asia. It is said that explorer Marco Polo brought it to Rome; then Catherine de Medici introduced ice cream to the French. The 1800’s brought my favorite, ice cream sundaes. In the last century, ice cream, and malt and soda fountains were all the rage. No matter how you eat it, we can agree that ice cream is delicious!
After our little history about ice cream, let’s make our own.
Freezer Bag Ice Cream
Supplies:
- 1 c. half-and-half

- 1/2 tsp. pure vanilla extract
- 3 c. ice
- 1/3 c. kosher salt
- Sandwich bag
- Gallon freezer bags
- Measuring cups and spoons
Directions:
- In a small plastic sandwich bag, combine half-and-half, sugar, and vanilla. Push out excess air and seal.
- In a large plastic freezer bag, combine ice and salt. Place small bag inside the bigger bag and shake vigorously, 7 to 10 minutes, until ice cream has hardened.
- Remove from bag and enjoy.
Now that our tummies are full, we can decorate our next project. We use crayons and real sprinkles to decorate an ice cream picture.
